MHES College of Science and Technology degree student ends life due to ragging

KOZHIKODE: Alleged ragging by third year students of MHES College of Science and Technology, Cherandathur, drove a second year student to commit suicide here in her house at Thondannur in Vadakara on Friday. Shahanaz Hameed, a second year computer science student, committed suicide by hanging herself from the window of a bathroom in her house at around 6.30 pm. She is daughter of Hameed, a businessperson from Vadakara.

According to her family members, the girl showed signs of depression on reaching home from the college at around 4 pm. They added that she talked to her parents about the harassment by seniors. Cops said no conclusions could be drawn on the reasons for the act as there was no suicide note letter citing indicating the reason for the suicideand she was also made fun off infront of few other students in the college the same day. Police said that since no letter or any other signs citing the reason for the suicide are reported so far, hence no conclusion could be drawn.
