Notice to state, CBI on plea for Latvian murder probe

The petitioner said that the woman was kept illegally and tortured to death by somebody.

Kochi: The High Court on Friday issued notices to the state government and CBI in a petition seeking a CBI probe into the killing of a woman from abroad in Kovalam. The petition has been filed by Andrew Jordan, husband of the victim, stating that the present investigation is not sufficient to unearth the truth behind the incident. The petitioner has also requested the court to prevent the police from filing the charge-sheet in the case till the disposal of the petition seeking a CBI probe.

Citing several discrepancies in the ongoing probe the petitioner pointed out that the postmortem report says that the body when found was at least 25 days old while the probe team is proceeding with the assumption that the woman was killed on the very same day of her disappearance. The petitioner said that the woman was kept illegally and tortured to death by somebody. The woman, a Latvian national, disappeared on March 2018 while on a holiday along with her sister. Her body was found on April 20 from a place near Panathura.
