Karnataka: Woman accuses fiancé of rape, forced abortion
Bengaluru: A 32-year-old government employee has accused her fiancé of raping her at knife point and also forcing her to undergo an abortion, when she was one month pregnant.
The complainant, Mamatha (name changed), a resident of Vijayanagar, has stated that her parents had arranged her wedding with one, Suresh, 40, of Rajarajeshwarinagar in 2016.But as her parents learnt about Suresh’s shady background, they had called off the wedding. However, Suresh visited Mamtha’s office and convinced her to marry him and they got engaged in August 2016. But citing trivial reasons, Suresh himself called off the engagement.
“In December 2016, Suresh reportedly went to Mamatha’s house and allegedly raped her at knife point and frightened her to silence. A month later, when she told that she was not feeling well, he forcefully took her to a hospital where it was confirmed that she was pregnant. The next day, he again came to her house and allegedly forced her to consume some tablets that caused an abortion,” an official said. The police are verifying the claims of the complainant and investigating the case in all angles. “We are investigating to know whether the allegations are true. The very fact that the woman has filed the complainant now, six months after the incident, has raised several questions. We will question both the complainant and the accused and verify the medical records,” the police added.
The Vijayanagar police have booked the accused under section 376 (rape), 506B (criminal intimidation), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC.
