Fisheries department official held for graft
Bengaluru: An Assistant Director of the fisheries department and a driver were arrested by the ACB officials after they were caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 20, 000 from a contractor.
Assistant Director Yogesh and car driver Nagaraj are the arrested people.
According to the ACB officials, a contractor was awarded tender to carry out fishing at a lake in Arakere village.
He was awarded the tender for five years from 2016 and he had to pay the department of fisheries Rs 1.71 lakh the first year and 50 per cent more every year for other four years.
As there was drought, the contractor suffered losses and thus he had applied to the department requesting them to waive off the amount that he had to pay for 2017-18. To approve his request, Assistant Director Yogesh had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000.
“Not willing to pay the brie, the contractor filed a complaint with the ACB and a trap was laid on Thursday. While driver Nagaraj was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant on behalf of the accused Assistant Director, he was caught red handed and both were arrested,” an ACB official added.
