Three people arrested in connection with youth's death in Kolkata
Kolkata: Three persons were on Thursday arrested and a search was on for three others in connection with the mysterious death of a 29-year-old engineer during an alleged fight with a group of locals in south Kolkata.
Sleuths from Ballygunge Police Station arrested Subhomoy Jana alias Babusona, Ranadip Sarkar alias Vishal and Surajit Tikadar from the south Kolkata locality in connection with their alleged involvement in the matter, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
Search operations for three more persons have been initiated by the detectives, he said apparently giving a clean chit to the victim Ronit Mondal's four friends, who were with him on Friday night when the alleged fight took place.
"Three more persons from the locality are involved in the matter. They are currently on the run and we have initiated a search operation for them. Hopefully they will be nabbed soon," the police officer said.
Sources in Kolkata Police said the arrested persons were being questioned at the Ballygunge Police Station and their versions would be matched with that of Mondal's four friends.
Mondal and his four friends, all residents of Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas on Friday night drove down to Maddox Square after buying 'biriyani' from a Park Circus outlet.
The five were having the food when, as per Mondal's friends' version, a few locals came to them and asked them to leave the place following which there was a quarrel between them that soon turned into a fight. The five tried to drive away from the place when the locals allegedly threw bricks and other heavy objects that smashed the windshield of the car.
On their way they found Mondal profusely bleeding from the back of his head following which they took him to a hospital on the EM Bypass where the youth died on Monday night.
