Chodavaram teen gets 20-year RI for raping minor
Visakhapatnam: Special Pocso court in Visakhapatnam awarded 20-year rigorous imprisonment to a 17-year-old boy for raping a seven-year-old girl, a class 2 student. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on the accused.
The police said that the accused and victim belonged to the same locality in a village under Chodavaram police station limits in Anakapalle district. The girl’s parents are daily wage labourers. The minor girl was alone in the house on May 8, 2022 when the incident took place.
The accused had gone to the girl’s home when her parents were out for work.
Taking the advantage of the situation, the accused sexually assaulted her. He again raped her the next day also. However, he was caught by the relatives of the victim.
A case against the accused was registered at Chodavaram police station in Anakapalle district on May 11, 2022. DSP of Disha police, Anakapalle M. Mahesh investigated the case and filed a charge-sheet.
DSP Mahesh said that the juvenile court recommended that the accused may be tried as an adult and kept in juvenile home till he attains majority.
After regular hearings, the judge of the special Pocso court found the accused guilty and pronounced 20-years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000.
The court also recommended that in accordance with provisions of section 33 (8) of Pocso Act read with Rule 7, the case is recommended for award of compensation to the tune of Rs one lakh by district legal services authority, under the victim compensation scheme.
