Dundigal Police Arrest Two Offenders

Hyderabad: A state-of-the-art fingerprint and palmprint scanner helped Dundigal police of Cyberabad commissionerate nab two offenders including a habitual offender and detect three old cases in which they were involved in during the past one month. The accused are identified as Kunapuli Karanteja and his associate Meghavath Sai Naik.

On Sunday night, during routine vehicle checking, police patrol teams intercepted the two accused on a bike. As the duo did not produce any supporting documents, cops checked them using the scanner.

As Karanteja’s fingerprints matched with the old offenders’ record, he and his associate were detained for further questioning. During interrogation, they admitted to have stolen the bike and mobile phones, all during the past month.

A bike and five mobile phones were recovered from the accused, said ACP Medchal S. Venkat Reddy. Karanteja was earlier involved in a theft case and out on a bail from jail. He teamed up with Sai Naik and started committing offences, he added.

The scanner device is developed for keeping a track on old offenders, which include those involved in property offences, bodily offences and drug peddling cases. Currently, data of over 10 lakh old offenders is available in the application, the police said.
