Visakhapatnam: The mystery behind the sudden death of bride M Srujana, during the wedding ceremony at Madhurawada in Vizag city on May 11, has finally been solved. The PM Palem police revealed that the bride was in love with another teenager and she was forced into marriage, which led her to take the extreme step.

The bride was from Hyderabad. As the priest was guiding the groom to shower cumin and jaggery pieces on her head, she collapsed on the wedding platform. She was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

The police suspected she might have taken some poisonous substance after they found datura seeds in her hand bag.

ACP (North), Srinivasa Rao, said Srujana had entered into relationship with a youngster, Mohan from Vizag city, seven years ago and she wanted to marry him. Mohan delayed the marriage plan, saying he would marry her after he got a means of livelihood.

Meanwhile, much against the girl’s wishes, the parents of  Srujana fixed her marriage with Nagothi Shivaji of PM Palem in Vizag city.

Mobile phone data revealed that before the marriage, the bride asked her boyfriend to take her away but he refused. Srujana told her boyfriend that she would try to stop the marriage at any cost. She carried out the threat by consuming some poisonous substance, police have established.

Though the bride’s brother Vinay told the media that her sister didn’t commit suicide and she had given her consent for the marriage, the police investigation revealed that Srujana was forced into the marriage, the police added.

She had, however, deleted much of the WhatsApp and Instagram chat with her boyfriend before the marriage ceremony.
