Hyderabad: A 19-year-old rape victim committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Saroornagar on Wednesday. The family has said that the girl had been depressed since the incident and had failed in a subject in the Intermediate examination, which her parents suspect to have led to her suicide, said the police.
The LB Nagar police on March 22 arrested one Srikanth, 26, of Nuvvula Banda in Nagole, for allegedly molesting the victim.
The accused deceived the girl by professing love and and then sexually assaulted her.
After the incident, the victim appeared for her Intermediate supplementary examinations last year but could not secure pass marks in one subject.
Subsequently, she entered a state of depression due to this. In April, her parents and two elder sisters took her on holiday to help her feel better.
On Wednesday morning, when her parents and sisters left the house to go to work, the victim stayed in all by herself. When her father returned home in the afternoon, he found the door was locked from inside.
He then peeped through a bedroom window to find his daughter’s body hanging from the ceiling.
Saroornagar sub-inspector L. Ravi Kumar said that the victim’s father and neighbours tried in vain to rescue her. Based on the complaint, a case of suspicious death has been registered.
“The accused who sexually assaulted the deceased was arrested by the LB Nagar police and is in prison,” said the sub-inspector....
