Chennai: A man is suspected to have raped two women of same locality early Monday and Tuesday.
The incident came to light when one of the two women, a junior clinical analyst, lodged a complaint at the JJ Nagar police station on Monday. A housewife of the same locality had also complained at the station alleging that she was raped and police picked up her neighbour, who was thrashed by the victim’s family members. His involvement in both the crimes is yet to be confirmed.
In one of the incidents, the 25-year-old living alone in the area for more than three years got back home on Monday night and at around 2 am, when she was asleep, she heard the door bell. On opening the door, a man allegedly forced himself inside the dark room and immediately held her at knife-point and threatened not to raise an alarm. Though she offered to give him her valuables, he only insisted on sexual favour and raped her. Later, the victim called up her dad and told him about the incident, who later lodged a complaint at the JJ Nagar police station.
The police were immediately alerted as they had come across a similar incident just a day ago where a 30-year-old housewife with her husband working abroad complained that she was raped at knife-point.
According to police, the woman was new to the locality and rented the house only on Sunday and was raped the same night. The man, who she alleges to be her neighbour, entered the house and hid himself inside the kitchen when she was in the bathroom, outside her house.
He also allegedly bashed her second child when she refused to offer any sexual favour. Later, when he refused to budge, she submitted herself and also the man threatened to harm others in her family if she disclosed about the issue to anybody. The investigating officer said one of the women has been sent for medical examination and the accused is being interrogated. CCTV footages have been collected from the spot....
