Hyderabad: Case booked against child rights activist for trespassing

Police booked a case under Sections 448 and 509 of IPC and Section 22 of the PoCSO Act.

Hyderabad: A case has been booked against child rights activist Achyuta Rao for trespassing into a house in Tappachabutra Police circle on Monday. According to the police, Rao entered the residence of a girl, based on a “false” tip-off.

“The activist received a call saying a girl is being sexually abused by her father, and went to investigate it without confirming that the information he received was true. Before setting out, Rao had called up the Child Protection Unit and was escorted to the place by its functionary Razia Bhanu,” said police inspector of Tappachabutra, Chandrashekar.

“Once they reached the place, they enquired about the alleged abuse with the 16-year-old girl. The girl and the other family members were shocked. Realising his mistake, Rao came to the police station along with the family members and explained his folly to the officials,” police said.

Feeling hurt and their privacy being invaded without any basis, the family of the girl lodged a police case against Achyuta Rao at Tappachabutra station. Police booked a case against Rao under Sections 448 and 509 of IPC and Section 22 of the PoCSO Act. “We are verifying the facts to proceed with an arrest and are also trying to find out who sent Rao this false information,” said the inspector.
