Trouble in air: Drunk flier runs riot in Bengaluru-bound flight

The suspect, Sushil Kumar, not only misbehaved with a woman co-passenger, but also turned violent when the complainant reclined his seat.

BENGALURU: A drunk passenger, who created a nuisance onboard a Bengaluru-bound flight, was arrested by the airport police on Friday. The unruly and inebriated flier on the Chandigarh-Bengaluru Indigo flight troubled a co-passenger and was arrested, the police said.

The complainant, Deepak Sharma, took to the social media to narrate the incident. He said that the suspect, Sushil Kumar, not only misbehaved with a woman co-passenger, but also turned violent when Mr Sharma asked him to let him recline the seat. “He started violently punching the seat from behind. He even misbehaved with the woman passenger, who had to change her seat with the help of crew members,” he stated in the complaint.

Mr Sharma with the help of CISF men and airport police personnel took Sushil Kumar to the police station at the airport and registered the complaint. An investigating officer said, “A case was booked against Sushil Kumar and he was later let off. He was reeking of alcohol and was heavily drunk. It took a lot of time for us to get him to his senses. He shouldn’t have been allowed to board the flight in the first place.”

Just too drunk to fly!
A complaint has been registered in Kempegowda International Airport police station after a drunken man created ruckus in a flight coming from Chandigarh on May 20.

The complainant, identified as Deepak Sharma, alleged that the inebriated passenger, identified as Suresh Kumar, picked up a quarrel with him when he tried to recline his seat backwards. Suresh had earlier misbehaved with a woman passenger and a woman crew member, he added.

The incident reportedly took place on the Chandigarh-Bengaluru Indigo Airlines Flight (No. 6E 478) on Friday. In his Facebook post Deepak alleged that when he took the unruly passenger to the KIA police station, the policemen reportedly tried to dissuade him from filing a complaint. He managed to register a complaint after a wait of three hours.

In his police complaint, Deepak had stated that “Suresh was drunk and unruly, and tried to inappropriately touch a woman passenger. When she raised an alarm, the cabin crew came and helped her move to a different seat. He also misbehaved with a woman cabin crew.”

Deepak said he was allotted seat no 1B, while Suresh was seated behind him at 2B. “He picked a fight with me when I reclined my seat. He violently hit my seat from behind. When I checked he rudely threatened me. Fellow passengers intervened and tried talking to him and I too assumed that he was probably a first time air traveller. However, Kumar continued hitting my seat from behind.”

After alighting at KIA Deepak approached the ground staff of the airline security crew and with the help of CISF personnel took Suresh to Airport police station. The complainant alleged that Suresh even attempted to bribe the CISF personnel and a policeman.

When DC contacted KIA police, the officer in charge said, “A nuisance complaint was registered at the police station on May 20. The man was heavily drunk and it took time for us to carry out the probe as he was not in a condition to provide details and he even urinated. Upon checking, the police learnt that he was working overseas and returning to the city.”
