Hyderabad: Missing girls handed over to their families

Girls ran away fearing theft case and police probe.

Hyderabad: Four girls who went missing from Chandanagar on Tuesday were tracked down to a pilgrim centre in Tirumala. Police rescued the girls, brought them to Hyderabad and handed them over to their families.

Police said the girls fled on their own after a person for whom they were working for complained of money missing from his home. Fearing the police, the girls decided to flee.

Swapna, 12, Renuka, 9, and Kaveri, 8, of Bandamkommu village in RC Puram and Padma, 10, a resident of Shantinagar used to do odd jobs in their neighbourhood.

A few days ago they worked for a person at his house in Chandanagar. Later, the man found Rs 18,000 was missing from his home. Suspecting the girls, he questioned them but they denied the allegation.

When he threatened them that he would inform the police they got frightened and decided to flee. They started for Tirupati on Tuesday evening and reached there on Wednesday.

A pilgrim from Hyderabad found them in Tirupati and asked them to go to Tirumala for food and shelter. He came to know that they were from Lingampally in Hyderabad.

The same person informed Chandanagar police on Friday after seeing reports in the media. Police teams tracked them to a pilgrim centre in Tirumala and took them to Hyderabad on Saturday night.

“They admitted they fled on their own due to fear. They also denied all knowledge about the missing money. We handed them over to their parents safely,” Chandanagar inspector N. Tirupathi Rao said.

The four girls who are relatives were close friends. They were last seen by Padma’s father a few hours before they went missing.
