Seven arrested in councillor Naik murder case
Mahbubabad: The Mahbubabad police on Friday nabbed seven persons for the murder of the eighth ward councillor Banothu Ravi Naik on Thursday, and seized a car and a tractor and seven mobile phones from their possession here on Friday.
Naik was murdered in broad daylight at Pattipaka of Mahbubabad shortly after he attended an event with TRS MP M. Kavitha.
The accused were identified as Bhukya Vijay Kumar, 34, Bhukya Arun, 20, Ajmera Balraj, 26, Gugulothu Chintu, 23, Karapati Sumanth, 23, Ajmera Kumar, 22, and Gugulothu Bavu Singh, 50.
Briefing the media, district superintendent of police Sharath Chandra said that Vijay and Arun were Naik’s associates and had fallen out with him.
Vijay and Arun were later arrested twice for transporting black jaggery and wood and they suspected that Naik had informed the police, SP Chandra said. To take revenge, they joined hands with Balraj who also had differences with Naik.
They took the help of four others and attacked Naik when they saw him alone on Thursday at around 11.30 am at Pattipaka.
After registering a murder case, the police started a manhunt and nabbed Vijay and Arun while they were trying to escape on Thursday night. The others were apprehended on Friday morning, the SP stated.
The SP appreciated the police team led by additional SP Yogesh Goutham, DSP Sadaiah, circle inspectors Satish and Ravi Kumar for busting the case within 24 hours.
