Anantpur Cricket betting gang busted
ANANTPUR: In a major breakthrough, Hindupur rural police busted two interstate cricket bookies and seized Rs 32.54 lakh cash, two communicator boxes and 57 mobile phones in Satyasai District on Friday.
Penukonda DSP N. Ramya said Muddanapuri Pradeep of Yanam in Pusucheri and B. Venkateswarlu of Ongole Town in Prakasam district were involved in cricket betting for the past few months. They shifted venue to Kodikonda Checkpost in Chilamathur mandal on Karnataka borders following police raids in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Proddatur towns as safe and secret place to avoid the police.
The gang was organising cricket betting during the ongoing IPL season by using mobile phones and communicator boxes.
On a tip off, the Hindupur rural inspector Hameed Khan and Chilamathur sub inspector Rangadu Yadav and staff raided on the den while the gang was organising betting during match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
They were caught red-handed by the police at the spot. "During raids we seized Rs 32.54 lakh cash and communicator boxes along with 57 mobile phones being used for betting," DSP said and added case was registered under AP gaming act.
