Hyderabad: Counselling has no effect, man kills wife

The Rajendranagar police who registered a case of murder has formed a team to nab the accused Syed Aman, 36, who is on the run.

Hyderabad: Hours after being counselled by the police in a case of domestic violence, a merchant from Rajendranagar killed his wife with a hammer. The couple’s two children, aged seven and five years, witnessed the murder.

The Rajendranagar police who registered a case of murder has formed a team to nab the accused Syed Aman, 36, who is on the run.

According to Rajendranagar police, the victim, Nagma Fathima, 24 and Aman, were residents of MM Pahadi in Rajendranagar. Aman has a tiles business and Fathima worked as a beautician.

About five years ago, Aman suspected that Fathima had an extramarital affair and began harassing her. Two years ago, they moved to Karnataka but returned last year for livelihood and were living in a rented house. “On April 14, she lodged a complaint with the Rajendranagar police after being beaten up by her husband. We counselled Aman and sent back back. At about 11 am on Saturday, the couple visited the police station where Aman was again counselled. They agreed to live together and left the police station,” said a police official.

At night, they reportedly picked up a quarrel and Aman picked up a hammer and hit Fathima on the forehead and head. She fell unconscious. “Their children saw Aman hitting their mother and rushed out to inform their neighbour, who alerted the house owner Saleem and Fathima’s mother Shaijadi Begum. Mr Saleem with the help of others took the injured Fathmia to the Osmania General Hospital, where she was declared brought dead,” the official said.

Police registered a case against Aman under Sections 498 A and 302 of IPC on the complaint of Ms Shaijadi Begum and are searching for him.

The children were handed over to their grandmother and the body was handed over after the autopsy at OGH mortuary.

Rajendranagar inspector G. Suresh said “During counselling, the couple was advised to understand each other and live together happily, to which they both agreed.”

Asked what help the children, who underwent the trauma of seeing their father attacking their mother, would get, they said they would be provided counselling through the Child Welfare Committee a few days later. “They are in a shock,” he said.

“They are with their maternal grandmother Shaijadi Begum. The Child Welfare Committee will be addressed to provide counselling to the children. After that, the district probation officer will supervise the care provided to the children at their grandmother’s house,” he said.
