A housewife ended her life by hanging herself at her home in Rein Bazaar on Thursday, minutes after clicking a selfie.

HYDERABAD: A housewife ended her life by hanging herself at her home in Rein Bazaar on Thursday, minutes after clicking a selfie. The police identified the woman as 24-year-old Arshiya Begum.

Arshiya was the wife of Mustafa, whom she had married in 2013. The couple and their two daughters lived in East Chandranagar in Yakutpura. About eight months ago, Mustafa left for the Middle East for work. But he remained in touch with his family.

However, issues began cropping up between Arshiya and her in-laws, because Mustafa would send his mother money every month. “The woman and her in-laws quarrelled frequently. The elders in the family tried to resolve the disputes and convinced Arshiya to stay at his house,” said M.A. Jaweed, inspector of Rein Bazaar.

On Wednesday night, the Arshiya took a selfie with a shawl around her neck and proceeded to send it to her husband and her mother. Minutes later, she hanged herself.

Relatives rushed to the house, and upon breaking the door, they found her hanging. They immediately informed her in-laws about what had happened.

The police registered a case against Arshiya’s father-in-law, Mohd Qasim, mother-in-law, Khatija Begum, and others, under Section 304B for dowry death. A post-mortem was performed and the body was handed over to members of Arshiya’s family.
