Bengaluru: Man robbed homes to start new business

Two-man gang targeted homes of techies.

BENGALURU: Two people were arrested for carrying out thefts at the home of software engineers and students during early hours and valuables '42 lakh was recovered from them in the Electronics City police station limits.

The accused have been identified as Sumeer Sharma, 32, a resident of Banashankari and hailing from Punjab and Rama Babu, 48, who had been purchasing stolen items from him.

According to the police, after they came across numerous cases of thefts at apartments of software engineers and students, a special team was formed to nab the culprits. Preliminary investigation revealed that all the thefts were committed by a single person.

The police examined the CCTV footages at the apartments where thefts had taken place. They then tracked and arrested the accsued on Wednesday.

The police recovered 1.89 kg gold ornaments, 1 kg silver articles, 17 laptops and five cameras, with a total worth of Rs 42 lakh.

A senior official said that Sumeer targeted residents in and around Electronics City, Begur, Koramangala and Hulimavu.

He came to the city in 2005 for higher education and finished his B.com in one of the prestigious colleges in the city. He later did masters in Hotel Management in one of the colleges in Chamarajpet.

He even started a business of computers and services in Hosakerehalli, but few years later he incurred losses and debts.

Sumeer then decided to restart his business by committing house thefts. He was previously arrested by the Madiwala police in 2017 and they had recovered 151 laptops and other valuables worth '72 lakh. He was sentenced to three months of jail and after finishing his term, he again took to crime.
