Three more surrender in Kottiyoor rape case

It was Thankamma Nellliyani who coordinated for the shifting of the newborn to the orphanage at Vythiri, according to the police.

Kannur: Three more persons, including two nuns and a pediatrician, surrendered before Peravoor circle inspector N Sunilkumar in connection with the rape of the minor by Fr Robin Vadakkumchery, former vicar of St Sebastian's church, Neendeunokki, Kottiyoor, on Wednesday.

Those surrendered were Dr Sr Tessy Jose of Christuraja Hospital, Thokkilangadi, Dr Hyder Ali M, paediatrician and Sr Ancy Mathew, the third, fourth and fifth accused respectively.

The trio reached the circle inspector's office at 6:35 am. With this, a total of eight accused in the crime have surrendered before the police. Meanwhile the remaining two accused, Sr Liz Mariya of Christudasi Convent, Manantha-vadi and Sr Anitta of Christudasi convent, Kalluritti, have approached the High Court for anticipatory bail. Both the accused were involved in shifting the newborn from the hospital to the orphanage at Vythiri, according to police.

It is to be recalled that Fr Robin Vadakkumc-hery was arrested on February 27 from Thrissur after the girl who delivered the baby revealed to the police that it was Fr Robin who raped her resulting in the pregnancy.

Sr Ophelia kept the information hidden to save Fr Robin while the CWC failed to report the incident to the government, police said.
