Hyderabad: Burglars decamp with gold from MLA Roja Selvamani's house
Hyderabad: Unidentified persons broke into the residence of Tollywood actress turned YSRC MLA Roja Selvamani and decamped with gold jewellery, silver ware and cash some days ago. The matter was reported to the police after the domestic help noticed the doors of the residence open and informed Ms Roja of it on Sunday.
Based on a complaint filed by Ms Roja’s husband, a case of theft was registered at Raidurgam police station. Police suspects the role of an insider in the theft.
Ms Roja, her husband and two kids live in the house in Panchavati Colony in Manikonda. On January 11, she and her family left for Chennai on Sankranti vacation, leaving behind domestic help Ramalakshmi who lives in the servant quarter on the ground floor.
Police said Ramalakshmi also left the house on January 12 leaving the keys with the neighbours and returned on January 18. Roja’s family was supposed to return on Monday. She went upstairs to clean the house, but to her shock the main door was ajar. She rushed in and checked the kitchen and found four silver plates missing. She then called Ms Roja on the phone who asked her to check the entire house. On checking, she found a wooden almirah open.
Later, the family members lodged a complaint with police on Monday. They told police that four silver plates, 16 tolas of gold and a diamond were stolen from the residence. Raidurgam inspector M. Ram Babu said that the police had collected clues from the spot and started a hunt for the suspects.
According to sources, a theft occurred in the same residence a year ago also but was not reported to the police. The owner recently noticed a few keys missing from the bunch and replaced the entire set. The suspect had used the missing keys to open a locker kept in the almirah. Surprisingly, the suspect did not touch anything else apart from the locker.
