27 minors held for harassing women in public, sent for counselling

The accused were made to undergo counselling along with their family members by professional counsellors from an NGO

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda SHE teams have arrested 52 persons, including 27 minors, for harassing women in public places and averted three child marriages during last week.

According to the police, SHE Teams registered 37 cases including seven FIRs, 14 petty cases and 16 counselling cases against those harassing women in last three weeks. The accused were made to undergo counselling along with their family members by professional counsellors from Bhumika Women’s Collective (NGO).

Children in conflict with law were also counselled by psychiatrist Dr Vasavi.

In one of the incidents highlighted by the police, one Bandi Rakesh, 26, of Laxminagar, Lalapet, Maredpally, in a car, and Changalpath Nikhil, 18, a student and resident of HB Colony, Moula Ali, who was riding a bike, applied brakes suddenly in front of a father-daughter duo who were travelling on a two-wheeler from ECIL to HB Colony, entered into an argument with them, used abusive language and threatened the girl.

In another incident, Bhongir police conducted a decoy operation at a bus stand and caught Etikala Sandeep, 21, Redaboinda Anil, 20, and Gangadevi Ravi Teja, 19, all students from Gangasanipally, Bhongir mandal, for creating nuisance while driving motorcycles and for harassing girls in the college.
