Bengaluru: Ex-cop abuses adopted daughter

The police said the accused had adopted the victim few years ago after his daughter died due to ill-health.

Bengaluru: Nelamangala police have arrested a retired sub-inspector for sexually assaulting his 17-year old adopted daughter.

The accused has been identified as Anand Kumar, 63, a resident of Weavers Colony in Nelamangala Town. He had worked in Bengaluru City Police Commissionerate.

The police said the accused had adopted the victim few years ago after his daughter died due to ill-health.

According to the police, Anand began sexually assaulting her after she turned 13. He frightened her to silence and abused her for three years.

Unable to bear with the harassment, the victim left the house and took refuge at a bus stop. The locals who noticed her, informed an NGO who took her to their shelter.

After a few detailed counselling sessions the NGO volunteers learnt about the incident and approached the Nelamangala police and filed a complaint on December 18.

The victim in her complaint stated that her foster father used to forcefully send his wife and grandchildren to visit temples and then sexually abuse her.

The victim stated that she even revealed about his behaviour to his wife, but she chose to ignore it.
