Cops retrieve 47 per cent of lost property in 2017
Hyderabad: Out of Rs 23.39 crore properties lost by citizens under the Rachakonda commissionerate, the police has recovered 47 per cent of them from the suspects. Of the 20,487 cases registered in 2017, 3,002 cases are related to property offences and the police has detected 51 per cent of them and recovered Rs 10.93 crore. The residents lost '5.61 crore in burglaries.
During the annual review on Thursday, Mahesh Bhagwat, Rachakonda police commissioner, said that many new initiatives have been designed to get more support from the public and citizens are made a part of different activities.
Currently, the police is running many social programmes like Margadarshak to support women in distress, counselling for offenders, and Naya Savera to control the drug menace.
The inter-state gang is calling the shots in property offences in Rachakonda. Since Rachakonda is located on the state border and the national highway, gangs from other states easily get access.
“We have already initiated measures to keep them away. But still we appeal to citizens not to store huge amounts of jewellery and cash at home,” Mr Mahesh Bhagwat added.
Curbing child labour and child marriages has been met with success this year. “Due to brick-kilns and saw mills operated in large numbers, the number of children working was high. They were rescued. Many were repatriated to their respective states. The kids from Odisha were admitted to a new Oriya medium school,” Mr Mahesh Bhagwat said.
During the Operation Muskaan in January and July, 815 kids were rescued in child labour cases and in missing cases. Six cases were registered and 27 suspects were arrested for child labour.
