Chennai: Man gets 3 year rigorous imprisonment for stealing mobile
Chennai: The XVIII Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Saidapet, has awarded three years rigorous imprisonment to a 27-year-old person on charges of assaulting and stealing cellphone from a techie in November this year.
The trial was completed in 35 days after offence. According to prosecution, an unidentified person was posing trouble to people at Vijay Nagar bus stand, Velachery, on November 16, 2017.
Threatening a software engineer with a knife he stole his cellphone and a wallet containing Rs 8,500. On information, Velachery police registered a case and a special team was formed to nab the accused.
The team nabbed Arivalagan, 27, of Mathur in Krishnagiri district, and following investigations the cops identified that he was involved in 20 offences committed in Chennai and in Krishnagiri district. Arivalagan a graduate in Mathematics, was working in Bengaluru for a few months before he came to Chennai searching for employment two years ago. Besides robbing people he also sexually assaulted several home-alone women at knifepoint and recorded this in his mobile phone. Prosecution has been progressing in 20 cases registered against him in several parts of Chennai.
The trial relating to the case registered against him by Velachery police was completed in 35 days. Assistant public prosecutor E. Edwig made efforts to conduct the trial on a daily basis and 10 persons appeared as prosecution witnesses. The accused was escorted to the court from Puzhal prison daily.
