Coimbatore: Kovai cops nab murder accused on run

Following a missing-person complaint lodged by his wife Bala Deepa, district SP, Pandiya Rajan, formed a special team to pursue the case.

Coimbatore: Police arrested a 30-year-old man who was on run after murdering his relative and dumping the body in a 200-ft deep abandoned well in the city’s suburbs.

Police said, Jeya Venu (36), was a native of Thoothukudi and a functionary of its local faction of Amma Makkal Munetra Kazhagam (AMMK) unit. Jeya Venu went missing after he came to the city on September 30, to appear before a court to testify in an attempt to murder case, which took place near Thudiyaloor, a few months back.

Following a missing-person complaint lodged by his wife Bala Deepa, district SP, Pandiya Rajan, formed a special team to pursue the case. Preliminary investigations revealed that Jeya Venu had met his relative Rajesh (30) and his friend, Suresh, near Vada Madurai in the suburbs of the city, on October 1. The trio had reportedly consumed liquor and had discussed the case in a drunken state.Soon, a quarrel erupted, and Rajesh with his friend Suresh had attacked Jeya Venu with an iron rod and killed him. They dumped the body in an abandoned well used to dump garbage in the same area, and fled. Recently, a police special team picked up Rajesh from Pune. During questioning, Rajesh admitted to murdering Jeya Venu. Suresh committed suicide last November 7, reportedly because he was scared of the police investigation.Police suspect that a few more persons also could be involved in the case, and are pursuing investigations. Arrangements have also been made to retrieve Jeya Venu's body from the well.
