Chennai: Techie held for Rs 18 lakh job fraud
Chennai: Police on Wednesday arrested a 29-year-old techie for cheating six members of Rs 18 lakh on the pretext of getting them overseas job. The accused identified as Pavi Shankar(29), a software engineer from Keala, had collected Rs 18 lakh from six members in September.
According to police, Pavi Shankar had approached Christ Raj(35) who works for an IT firm in Pallikarani and promised to get him a job in Dubai. Christu Raj meanwhile requested Pavi Shankar to provide overseas job also to five of his friends. The accused then met the six men couple of days later and the latter handed them six employment letters which bore seals and which the accused alleged to have been formally issued by a company in Dubai. They then paid him Rs 18 lakh for employment cost. However, last month the victims fled Dubai and were shocked to find the company did not send them any appointment letter. Over the period of one month, they tried to contact the accused, who had ignored their calls and later switched off his phone. It was only then that they realised that they were victims of fraud. Pallikaranai police launched a search for the man. Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning he was arrested.
