Bengaluru: Man unleashes dog to settle scores

The accused, Rangachari, has a dispute over a building, which is an ancestral property at Dasnapura on the city's outskirts.

Bengaluru: A 50-year-old man, who allegedly unleashed his pet Doberman dog on an employee of a private travel firm over a rent issue on Saturday, was arrested by the Madanayakanahalli police.

The accused, Rangachari, has a dispute over a building, which is an ancestral property at Dasnapura on the city’s outskirts.

The police booked him for negligent conduct in respect to animal (Section 289 of IPC), trespass and voluntarily causing hurt.

The injured, Shivaji Singh, a 55-year-old employee of a travel agency, has sustained severe injuries and is said to be in a critical condition.

Shivaji’s employer Goutham Chand Jain, who owns a travel agency, had taken the building on rent and paid the rent to Rangachari’s siblings. But Rangachari objected to this and often fought with Goutham Chand, asking for the rent amount. But Mr Jain had refused, saying he could pay the rent only to the person with whom he has signed the rental agreement.

On Saturday, Rangachari barged into the travel agency office with his dog and ransacked it. When the victim, Shivaji Singh, who was at the office, objected to the unruly behaviour and tried to stop him, Rangachari let loose his dog, which bit and injured Shivaji severely.

As a heavily bleeding Shivaji raised an alarm, neighbours rushed to his help and shifted him to a private hospital, where his condition is said to be critical. Sensing trouble Rangachari fled from the spot.

The Madanayakanahalli police, who visited the spot, conducted inquiries and arrested Rangachari.
