Hyderabad: The Philippines-based Islamic state motivator Karen Aisha Hamidon, who was arrested in Philippines by the local security agencies, had radicalised at least two youths from the city apart from a few others from the country, the Telangana police said.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is tracking the Islamic state-related modules in the country, had zeroed in on Karen Aisha. Last year, the NIA provided her address in Diego Shilang village in Taguig City, Metro Manila, along with her phone numbers to authorities in Philippines. It has provided her identity as Karen Aisha Al-Muslimah with ID as @KarenAishaHamidon.
After keeping a watch on her online activities, the police identified a few Indian youths who were in touch with her. Last year, the NIA had passed on her address and other details to the authorities in Philippines.
As many as 12 youths were arrested by the National Investigation Agency. In another two instances, the NIA arrested a few youths from the city for conspiring to carry out terror attacks.
Police officials say that during their probe, most of the youth from the city were found to be in touch with Shafi Armar who oversaw the Indian operations. However, Shafi, declared a global terrorist, is suspected to be dead.
If the Philippines allows the NIA to question Karen, more information about the Islamic state in India will come to light.
