Rajahmundry: A 23-year-old man attempted to molest a six-year-old girl by taking her to an abandoned thatched house at Kundaleswara of Katrenikona mandal in East Godavari on Saturday. According to villagers, the girl along with her parents hailing from Samanasa village of Amalapuram mandal arrived to her kin's house located at Tannelpeta at Kundaleswara village to attend the death anniversary ceremony of a relative. Pulugu Venkatesh, 23 hailing from Thurpupeta village of Katrenikona mandal under the influence of liquor persuaded the girl to come along with him to an abandoned hut located nearby.
When Venkatesh started to misbehave with her, the girl started to scream loudly for help. The villagers rushed to the hut and found the girl crying. After learning that Venkatesh tried to rape her, enraged villagers tied him up to a tree and beaten him up severely. Later, they handed him over to the police.
