Kozhikode: Ex-BJP leader held with fake currency
KOZHIKODE: Police arrested a former BJP leader from Thrissur for distributing fake currency worth Rs 1.4 lakh at Koduvally here on Saturday.
Ragesh Erassery, a native of SN Puram, was arrested earlier from Mathilakam, Thrissur, for the same crime.
The police also held his accomplice Perakamanna Mandathodi Suneer Ali, a native of Malappuram, while carrying fake banknotes for distribution at Omassery near Koduvally in a scooter (KL 47 H 5043).
Police seized 300 fake notes of Rs 500 and 200 denominations from them.
Erassery was first arrested by police in 2017 with fake currency and printing machines when he was the president of Yuva Morcha, Sreenarayanapuram zonal committee. Later he was expelled from the party.
Police had seized Rs 2000 and Rs 500 currencies from the first floor of his house, besides desktop and laptop computers, bond paper, colour paper and ink.
It was designed on the computer and printed on paper with the same thickness and quality of the original. He resumed his 'business' when he was out on bail.
