Petty row: Woman sets herself ablaze
Bengaluru: A 31-year-old woman committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her residence after a domestic row in D.J. Halli police station limits on Thursday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Jayalakshmi, wife of Nagaraja, a resident of Shampur. Police said they have been married for ten years.
According to the police, Nagaraja works in a saloon and on Thursday afternoon, he came home for lunch and was upset after he came to know that his wife had not prepared food. He picked up a fight and in a fit of anger left for the saloon.
Around 5:30 pm, Jayalakshmi, who was reportedly angry about the quarrel, doused kerosene and set herself ablaze. Hearing her screams, the neighbours rushed to her house and immediately shifted her to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed.
Police said that Jayalakshmi's mother has filed a complaint with the D.J. Halli police station stating that her son-in-law was harassing her daughter and she ended her life as she was fed up with his torture.
The D.J. Halli police have registered a case and arrested Nagaraja.
