Secretariat staffer kills neighbour in Hyderabad

Dharma Rajaiah hit Uma with an iron rod on the head killing her on the spot.

Hyderabad: A 51-year-old man working at the TS Secretariat allegedly murdered his 58-year-old neighbour over a land dispute on Wednesday.

Dharma Rajaiah hit Uma with an iron rod on the head killing her on the spot. The two families had a dispute over land sold to Uma’s family by Dharma Rajaiah’s father. Rajaiah was arrested and produced in court.

The victim, Chegori Uma, was a housewife. Rajaiah was working as a lift operator. Rajaiah’s father Narsing got the 58 square yard plot as a gift from one Mallesh in the late 1980s and he sold it to Uma in 1992. After the death of his father, Rajaiah started troubling Uma saying they were the owners of the land.

Uma showed him the original sale and registration documents but he continued to trouble them. Rajaiah filed a case at the civil court claiming the land, but the court ruled in Uma’s favour. He appealed against the civil court order.

On Wednesday morning, Uma went to a nearby grocery store to purchase milk. “While returning Rajaiah hit her on the head with an iron rod,” inspector V. Yadagiri Reddy said. Uma suffered a deep injury on her forehead and died on the spot. Uma’s body was handed over to her family after post-mortem. She is survived by her husband, son and daughters.
