Visakhapatnam: A 35-year-old man was convicted to life imprisonment on Monday for killing his two young children. The man, Palkia Sattibabu, was found guilty of smothering his children, Paliak Hany (3 years old) and Palika Karthik (18 months old), with a bed sheet in Gandhinamavaram village in Anakapalli district in 2016.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on Sattibabu, failing which he will have to undergo another two months in prison.
The prosecution case was that Sattibabu had an affair with Nirmala and later married her. He often suspected her fidelity and tortured her physically, alleging that she was having affairs outside of marriage. He also told her that he was not the father of the two children.
On September 9, 2016, Sattibabu smothered his children with a bed sheet while they were sleeping. His wife Nirmala ran away from home fearing he would also kill her. A case was registered following a complaint lodged by Nirmala.
The court found Sattibabu guilty of the charges and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
