Hyderabad: Three held with LSD, heroin and ganja

Accused trio got addicted to drugs while living abroad.

Hyderabad: Special operations team of the Rachakonda police has busted a drug racket and arrested three persons including a PhD scholar, an MBA student and an unemployed man at Ramanthapur and recovered 15 LSD blots, 10 gm heroin and 1.5 kg ganja, all worth Rs 1.5 lakh. The accused, who met through a common friend in Saudi Arabia, used to consume drugs since their early teens. They used to procure drugs from Goa and sell them to the students and their friends in the city.

The SOT sleuths on Tuesday apprehended Mohammed Shamneed, 23, Uzair Ahmed, 23, and Puppala Venkatesh, 31, from Sri Sai Nilayam in Ramanthapur. Shamneed was carrying 13 LSD blots, Uzair had two LSD blots and Venkatesh had 1.5kg ganja and 10 gm of heroin on him. Investigations revealed that Shamneed, a native of Kerala, and his schoolmate Uzair Ahmed of Hyderabad were introduced to drugs during their schooling, while Venkatesh, a content writer from Malakpet got the addiction when he was pursuing Masters in Information Technology at Denwar in the USA.

Rachakonda joint commissioner G. Sudheer Babu on Tuesday said Shamneed had taken admission to pursue graduation at Alagappa University in the city on distance mode. He was living in Kerala till August this year and used to visit his parents in Saudi Arabia once in a year. “Shamneed has a large customer base in the city. He does not advertise the drugs. Uzair and Venkatesh are suspected to have been selling drugs to their friends. We will take them into custody to probe further.”
