Chennai: Boy beats ex-girlfriend, lands up in prison

Police added that the boy had allegedly been pestering the girl to continue the relationship to which the girl refused to.

Chennai: A 22-year-old man entered a private educational institution in Ramapuram and attacked a BDS student. Royala Nagar police have arrested him and sent to judicial remand.

The staff and students of SRM University in Ramapuram were in a shock after K.Thenamudhan (22) of Rajbai Nagar in Avadi allegedly breached the security of the institution to enter the university and attack Divyadarshini, a dental science (BDS) student, on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, the accused, who has completed catering science course and the victim had got acquainted with each other through social media. “They were said to be developed a relationship subsequently and were in the relationship for a few months. However, girl ended talking to the boy citing his behavior recently,” police said.

Police added that the boy had allegedly been pestering the girl to continue the relationship to which the girl refused to. “On Tuesday at around 8.30 am when the classes were about to commence, Thenamudhan allegedly entered the college and started an argument with the girl. As the girl had refused to talk to him, she avoided him that irked the accused. He pulled her hand and shoved her before giving a few blows,” a source said.

Shocked by the incident that happened on the campus, the management of the university lodged a complaint with Royala Nagar police. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and recorded the statement from the victim. Thenamudhan was arrested and was sent to judicial remand.
