Postal assistant diverts Rs 2.45 crore public money
HYDERABAD: K. Laxmikanth, currently a postal assistant of the Mahabubnagar Head Post Office, attached to the Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK), was found to have allegedly misappropriated government money of Rs 2,45,80,583 between October 31, 2019, and February 3, 2022.
A day after the CBI anti-corruption wing registered cases, postal department officials submitted their reports to the agency. A team of officers led by Amit Kumar Goutham and consisting of Ajay Singh Chowhan, V. Vidya Sagar, and Md. Inthiyaz, conducted the audit.
According to the report, Laxmikanth allegedly committed fraud when he was working as sub-postmaster in Kodangal and also at Mahbubnagar head post office and divisional office.
Laxmikanth remained absent from duty without prior approval, indicating prima facie suspicion about his role in the fraud, the report stated. Another accused officer K Bhardwaj, in his statement confessed that Rs 60 lakh was transferred to his account by Laxmikanth.
