Chennai: Pregnant woman knocked down by 2 motorcycles, 1 held
Chennai: In a tragic incident near Chennai airport, a 25-year-old pregnant woman was killed after two motorcycles rammed into her, on Saturday evening. However, the motorists alleged that the signal in the junction was not working when the incident happened and there were no traffic cops to regulate the traffic.
The deceased was identified as Jasmin of Nedumkundram village near Perungalathur. She was working in a food outlet at the airport.
The incident happened on Saturday evening at 4 pm, when Jasmin was crossing the GST Road opposite airport to take a bus to Tambaram after work. While crossing the road, a two-wheeler driven by Vinoth (29) of Gobichettipalayam crashed and forced her to fall on the road. At the same time, Nagarajan (49) of Pallavaram, who was following Vinoth, was not able to swerve his two-wheeler and also hit Jasmin.
“Jasmin suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. Nagarajan was sent to a nearby hospital,” the police said. St Thomas Mount traffic investigation police rushed to the spot and arrested Vinoth, who visited the city in search of a job recently. “Nagarajan will also be arrested,” police sources said. Jasmin’s body was sent to Chromepet Government hospital for post-mortem. The police registered a case and are investigating.
