Karnataka: Six cops injured in collision, Irani gang member escapes
BENGALURU: Six Central Crime Branch (CCB) policemen and a member of the notorious Irani gang, who was arrested and being brought to the city from Pune, were injured when their SUV rammed into a lorry near Tumakuru early Thursday. The accused managed to escape in the melee.
Of the injured, the condition of Inspector Anand Kabburi and constable Zabiulla is said to be critical, as they have sustained head injuries. Another inspector, Giri, head constables Kumaraswamy, Mahadev and constable Satish have also sustained injuries and are out of danger.
Chetan, the driver of the hired vehicle, also sustained injuries. According to the police, the policemen attached to the Fraud and Misappropriation squad of the CCB had gathered credible information about Ali Akram Jaffar, a member of notorious Irani gang involved in several chain snatching cases in the city.
The team led by Kabburi had left for Pune and apprehended him on Wednesday. The team had left Pune on Wednesday evening and was on the way to the city.
“While passing near Oorukere near Tumakuru, around 4.30 am, their Innova hit a truck passing ahead, after the truck moved to left without any indication. All occupants of the SUV sustained injuries in the mishap. In the melee, Jaffer, who had also sustained injuries, managed to escape though he was handcuffed. Kabburi is undergoing treatment at Nimhans while others are being treated at other private hospital.
