Inter-state sex racketeer Suhail Thangal arrested at Palayam

KAAPA was slapped on him considering three cases registered in the last seven years.

Kozhikode: Sex racketeer Suhail Thangal was arrested on Thursday after Kozhikode District Collector N. Prasanth slapped Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) on him on Wednesday following a report by Nadakkavu SI G. Gopakumar. Thangal, who is an accused in seven cases, was nabbed from Jayanthi buildings at Palayam. KAAPA was slapped on him considering three cases registered in the last seven years.

Son of Muthukoya Thangal, Puthiyapurakkal house, Muttil, Wayanad, Thangal was convicted in sex racket cases registered in Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Three cases were registered in Kozhikode city. He will be taken to Kannur central prison on Friday. The High Court had ordered to impose KAAPA on Thangal on April 7.

But he was convicted on April 8 and the collector had expressed his inability to impose a preventive Act on a person who is already in jail. However, on April 23, Thangal got a bail and was released on April 25, since another case was pending at Manjeri Additional Sessions Court.

The High Court had pulled up the collector for his reluctance to slap KAAPA on a sex racketeer who was involved in many cases and had become a headache for the police. Advocate P.P. Sapna, trustee of ‘Punarjani’, an initiative of women lawyers’ of Kozhikode, had approached the court over the inaction of the collector, even after the directions from the High Court.
