Kids packed into autorickshaws like sardines, Hyderabad traffic police book 130 cases
Hyderabad: Beginning its traditional exercise at the start of the academic year, the police booked 130 cases against autorickshaws for carrying an excessive number of school children.
Among the 130 drivers, one was found in an intoxicated condition at Sultan Bazaar with a blood alcohol concentration of 228 mg per 100dl. The autorickshaw was carrying nine students. Another nine drivers did not have their driving licence.
Chargesheets were booked against all the drivers caught without driving licence and they may get imprisonment along with fine, said additional traffic commissioner, Hyderabad, Anil Kumar.
Asked about the timing of such drives, Mr Anil Kumar said checking of school autorickshaws is generally done when the schools reopen. “From now on we will do it throughout the year. We have given clear instructions to the parents and schools authorities to send their children in a proper vehicle which has a fitness certificate,” Mr Anil Kumar said.
