Hyderabad: Relative threatens to upload wedding pics, minor ends life
Hyderabad: A 17-year-old minor girl committed suicide on Wednesday at her residence in Miyapur, after her uncle forcefully married her in the absence of her parents, last week.
Babu, 30, a labourer, is a distant relative of the minor and had troubled her in the past too, said Miyapur inspector Harishchandra Reddy. “The mother of the girl had refused his proposal, and she was harassed by Babu. A week ago, when the victim’s mother and brother were not at home, Babu came and tied the yellow thread on her neck. He uploaded the pictures on social media without her permission,” the inspector said. According to sources the marriage was consummated.
On Wednesday, when her family was out at work, the minor committed suicide. When her mother and brother returned late in the night, they found the door latched from inside. They broke open the door when there was no response and found the minor’s body hanging.
According to child rights activist Achyutha Rao, Babu will be charged with rape, abetment to suicide under IPC and a minimum imprisonment of 20 years.
According to sources, however, the minor was in love with Babu and was willing to marry him. Her mother and brother did not approve of the marriage and were forcing her to cut all ties with him.
Miyapur police has booked a case against Babu, who is reportedly absconding, under Sections 304 (a) (causing death by negligence), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC.
