Rape accused flees from cops
Hyderabad: An undertrial prisoner accused of raping a child and robbery at a techie's villa in Gandipet a month ago, escaped when he was brought to court on Tuesday. Babul Puran and Arun Sharma were arrested and kept at the Cherlapally jail in judicial custody. Arun Sharma escaped when they were brought to court for trial.
On Tuesday Babul Puran and Arun Sharma were brought to court escorted by armed reserve constables. They were produced before the VIII metropolitan magistrate at Upparpally in Rajendranagar. After the trial was adjourned, they came out along with the escort.
“While they were going towards the escort vehicle they escaped. Babul Puran was caught immediately, but Arun Sharma managed to escape,” Shamshabad DCP Sunpreet Singh said. Special teams have been set up to nab him. Babul and Arun were arrested on May 25 for a rape attempt on a 11-year-old girl at a farmhouse in Gandipet.
The duo from Kanpur came to Hyderabad looking for work after comitting a pety theft in their hometown. On May 14, they entered a villa and stole an Apple Macbook, a Nokia cellphone, an Apple iPhone and a Samsung phone. When they were leaving the girl raised an alarm. The duo gagged and slapped her and threatened to kill her. They took the girl to the house’s backyard and sexually assaulted her at knife point. They were arrested on May 25 and were kept at the Cherlapally prison in judicial custody.
