Kerala rape and murder case: Police gets Ameerul custody for 10 days
Kochi: The Perumbavur First Class Magistrate Court on Tuesday sent Ameerul Islam, the prime accused in the Jisha murder case, to 10 days in police custody after accepting the plea of the Special Investigation Team that his custody was required for further probe and evidence collection. The cops in their plea submitted that his detailed statement regarding the admission of the crime needed to be recorded and the weapons used for the crime and the clothes worn during the fateful day have to be recovered.
Further, the accused has to be taken to the crime scene and nearby locations in Perumbavur and the places where he was staying underground in states like Assam, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. The police have to find out the sources of materials used by the accused for the crime and whether he received aid in any form such as evidence destruction. The cops further cited that more identification parades have to be conducted to prove his role beyond any doubt.
“So far, the accused has given various versions regarding the crime motive. We need to find the real reason and the correct sequence of events leading to the crime. Also recovery of the weapons is vital,” sources said. The cops hinted that the identification parade will be held first followed by taking the accused to various places. “He will be taken with his head masked. Now witnesses, including the lodge owner, another neighbour of the victim and the footwear shop owner will participate in the exercise,” they said.
The court earlier asked Ameerul whether he has anything to say for which he requested permission to visit his native place. The cops earlier in the day took into custody his brother Baharul Islam from a private institution in Perumbavur but the initial probe reveals that he has no role in the episode.
