Hyderabad: Chain snatchers attacked a woman returning home after watching a movie on Sunday night at Chaitanyapuri. The assailants snatched a 4.4 Tola gold chain from the woman riding a scooter.
According to the police, Chandrashekaran Venkata Padmavathi (48), a resident of Kothapet, had gone to watch a movie at Vijaya Lakshmi Multiplex at LB Nagar with her daughter and a friend.
After watching the movie, they were returning back home on their scooter around 2.15am. After taking a U-turn near Anutex shopping mall, two unknown persons approached their vehicle from the rear and snatched her gold nuptial thread worth Rs 88,000 from her neck and fled.
The victim told cops that the snatchers were not wearing a helmet or a mask and were riding a high-end bike, but the type and make could not be determined as they sped off.
Mr M. Mahesh inspector of Chaitanyapuri said, “This is the first time a snatching case has been reported at this hour. All closed circuit television cameras present in the area are being analysed and previous chain snatchers records are also being verified. Based on the available evidence, the investigation will proceed,” he said.
