Hyderabad: The cement laden truck that rammed into the bike and killed two youths was driven by a drunk at the time of the mishap.Before hitting the bike he had hit a moving taxi car in the area. In an attempt to stop the truck after running over the bikers he rammed into a police crane vehicle damaging it heavily.
Soon after the mishap the traffic police nabbed him. On checking it was found that his blood alcohol content (BAC) was 550. Police says that he was so drunk that he could not even see and realise what was happening at the moment.
The Langar Houz police booked a case against the driver, Anantaiah, hailing from Hyderabad, and arrested him under various charges. “The truck was coming from Karnataka to Hyderabad carrying cement sacks to deliver to merchants in the city. Ananthaiah got drink at a wine shop on the outskirts and started driving again at midnight,” said a police official from Langar Houz police station, where Anataiah is lodged now.
“He hit a moving Tata Indica car 200 metres away from the place where the traffic police were stationed and continued to drive. Luckily, no one inside the car was injured,” said Tolichowki traffic police inspector Sathish Kumar.
“After hitting the bike he rammed into our crane parked by the roadside. The crane was heavily damaged in the accident,” said the inspector. Police booked a case under Section 304A. He will be produced in a local court on Monday morning for hearing.
