Lovers end lives at peddapalli

They belonged to different castes and were neighbours.

Karimnagar: A 27-year-old youth and his lover committed suicide by consuming cool drinks laced with poison at a railway flyover in Peddapalli on Friday midnight as their elders rejected their proposal for marriage.

The deceased were identified as Keshetti Krishna Murthy aka Kittu and 21- year-old Maddela Mounika. They are residents of Kolanur village in Odela mandal. Mounika had studied B.Com. They belonged to different castes and were neighbours.

The couple killed themselves as the parents of Krishna Murthy turned down their request to get married. They left homes saying that they would get married at a temple.

Police said they fell in love with each other two years ago. They tried to get married at a temple in Vemulawada recently. But the elders of the two communities stopped their attempt by holding a meeting and rejected the marriage proposal of the couple, a source said.

Three days back, Mounika staged a dharna in front of the Krishna Murthy's house. Police counselled the pair and promised to get her married to the youth. However, the couple ended their live fearing that their wedding ceremony would be stopped.

Based on a complaint from the parents of the girl a case has been registered. Investigations are underway. The post-mortems of the bodies were conducted at the Peddapalli government hospital.
