SI accused of smuggling ganja escapes police net

Kakinada: Sub-inspector V. Sathibabu of Mothugudem in Alluri Sitarama Raju district escaped while being interrogated in a case of smuggling ganja on Saturday.

Sources said Special Enforcement Bureau officials had nabbed some ganja smugglers in Nellore. While being interrogated, they revealed that they had given ₹2 lakh to the Mothugudem SI for letting them carry the narcotic.

SEB officials conveyed this information to Chinturu division police. Chinturu assistant superintendent of police K.V. Maheswara Reddy told Deccan Chronicle that investigation officers had been interrogating SI Sathibabu in the matter. However, the SI slipped away from the place.

Maheswara Reddy said special teams have been formed to search for Sathibabu.

The news has spread like wildfire within police circles, particularly when the state government is making efforts to curb ganja cultivation and consumption in Andhra Pradesh.
