BJP to take action on S Ve Shekher for anti-women remarks

According to the police sources, the FIR had been registered based on the complaint of a city-based journalist association.

Chennai: The BPJ will take action against party member S. Ve. Shekher for his derogatory Facebook post on women journalists. Also, the party is taking “appropriate action” on national secretary H. Raja for his unwarranted comments on Kanimozhi, BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has said.

According to the police sources, the FIR had been registered based on the complaint of a city-based journalist association. However, the police had abstained from arresting the booked actor until going to the Press.

The FIR had been booked under IPC sections 504 (Intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace), 505(1)(c) (Intent to incite, or which is likely to incite, any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and the section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act, for harassment of women.

The veteran actor and politician had entangled himself in the mess after he shared a Facebook post in which he allegedly berated women journalists, on Thursday. Although S.Ve. Shekar had deleted the post and apologized after stringent criticism from various journalist's association and women journalists in the state, he made liable for the derogatory FB post.

The BJP leader had shared the post after journalists in Tamil Nadu reprimanded the act of 'grandfatherly' Governor Banwarilal Purohit patting on a woman journalist cheek without her consent. The journalist had taken to her Twitter account expressed annoyance over Purohit's gesture. Meanwhile, the governor apologized to the woman journalist and she also accepted the apology.
