Bengaluru: A 38-year-old astrologer was arrested for sexually assaulting a woman and cheating her by taking a loan of Rs 50 lakh and not returning it in Gangammana Gudi police station limits on Saturday.
The victim, a 25-year-old woman, had filed a complaint against the astrologer, Dinesh Guruji, for cheating and sexually assaulting her under the pretext of teaching her astrology.
The accused also conducts astrology shows on TV channels and runs an astrology center in Gangammana Gudi.
The victim was impressed by his TV programmes approached him a year ago and asked him to teach her astrology.
In her complaint the victim had stated that the astrologer promised her to get an official degree from a reputed institution and sexually harassed her many times.
She later came to know that she was not the only one to be cheated by him and had also amassed a fortune.
According to the police, the accused approached her and told her that he was facing a financial problem and asked her to lend him some money. He promised to return it at the earliest.
The victim’s family, who had recently sold their property, had some cash and the victim convinced her parents to lend him Rs 50 lakh.
She later noticed a change in his behaviour, when she demanded her money back, he physically assaulted her and refused to return her money.
She immediately approached the Gangammana Gudi police and filed a complaint on Friday. The police registered a case and arrested him.
