Hyderabad: The kingpins of the drug rackets keep moving their ‘drug cooking’ labs to different cities whenever there is a crackdown from authorities. Sources say many of these cooking labs were shifted from Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru to Hyderabad.
Earlier, such rackets had a strong presence in Chennai, Bengaluru and Maharashtra, where enforcement agencies like Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), DRI and police cracked down on several of the gangs.
Many rackets then started using Hyderabad’s industrial area to covertly produce the banned drugs.Last year in October, when the Narcotics Control Bureau busted a racket in Hyderabad, it was found that Bengaluru-based king pin D. Srinivas Reddy alias DSR was running the racket. The officials then arrested Air Force official Rajasekhara Reddy, who helped DSR to set up a drug lab with hired machinery at IDA Bolaram.
DSR, who has close links with South Asian drug cartels, had started his manufacturing in Bengaluru. But later he shifted to Hyderabad, where he felt it was safe to produce and expand.
